New Coworking Space Aims To Be A Hub For Bellingham’s Design Community

posted in: Announcement, Featured | 0

Located at 221 Prospect Avenue in the space that was previously Hatch 2.0, the Localgroup Studio is Bellingham’s newest coworking space. Founded by Alan McConchie, his vision is to grow the ambition, volume, and critical nature of Bellingham’s design discussions by creating space for connecting, whether locally, regionally, or internationally. To this end, the Studio hosts periodic social and educational events. Outside of business hours, the Studio is committed to using design to create meaningful civic engagement with projects that benefit the local community and the environment.

One of the ways that Alan is engaging the design community is through the event series, “Design Drinks + Talks“. Hosted every other month at the Localgroup Studio, this event features 2 to 3 short presentations by artists, architects, cartographers, designers, programmers, and others engaged with design questions and problems. Besides sharing past work, presenters explore design as both a conceptual and practical concern to support and expand design discourse both locally and generally. Accompanying each event, drinks will be served to attendees who wish to network with other creatives and professionals seeking new connections, collaborations, opportunities, and conversations. The most recent Design Drinks + Talks was held on Friday, June 2nd and so look for the next one to take place later this summer. If you’d like to receive invitations to these events, you can join the Meetup Group at meetup.com/Bellingham-Design-Drinks-Talks

Besides the various events that will take place at the Localgroup Studio, there’s a range of coworking memberships to take advantage of. From an option for anyone to drop-in for a single day and then all the way up to full-time memberships, there’s plenty of options to choose from. Typical membership features such as access to high speed wireless internet, printers, desk space, office supplies, and a kitchenette are of course available, but a unique offering is the use of the well-stocked art & design library.
